All of us at ReThink Energy NJ wish you a happy, healthy, and green New Year.
A new year is a time for renewal. In this spirit, ReThink is reminded of our commitment and our mission to transition away from dirty fossil fuels in New Jersey toward clean, affordable, homegrown energy sources like wind and solar.
This New Year is also a time of challenges. The national election results will make state-level action on clean energy more important than ever. With the likelihood that federal progress on clean energy will falter, it’s up to New Jerseyans to secure a healthy future for our families and communities.
That means fighting to stop unneeded and damaging pipelines proposed throughout the state that threaten our land, water, health, and safety in 14 New Jersey counties plus the Raritan Bay. These are pipelines to the past that would put utility company profits over the common-sense energy needs of our state.
We accomplished a lot in 2016 and were glad to see our efforts reinforced by a Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind™ poll showing how strongly New Jerseyans support moving to clean energy like wind and solar rather than more dirty fossil fuels and pipelines. We saw successes across several pipeline fights in the state — including two delays of the PennEast pipeline — all because of the dedication of thousands of citizens, elected officials and state and federal agencies. We resolve in 2017 to do everything we can to move New Jersey in the right direction on energy by opposing unneeded, damaging pipelines, and supporting clean, homegrown energy like wind and solar.
We’re grateful for the tremendous support from the organizations who launched our campaign — New Jersey Conservation Foundation, Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association, and Pinelands Preservation Alliance — along with all of you: New Jersey residents who care deeply about the right energy future for New Jersey.
Here’s to making 2017 a year in which we move closer yet to clean, renewable energy — and the prosperity it will bring.
