Ask Gov. Murphy to Continue Protecting Us Against PennEast

Gov. Murphy Stop PennEast

Despite the good efforts of the Murphy Administration, the U.S. Supreme Court narrowly ruled in favor of PennEast, granting the company the right to seize over forty state lands preserved with tax-payer dollars. PennEast is still facing numerous other legal and regulatory hurdles, and New Jersey has the authority to determine whether the project can meet strict standards protecting wetlands and water quality.

We need to remind Gov. Murphy and his administration of the destruction that PennEast would cause our state. The pipeline would cut through thousands of acres of preserved open space, devastating critical wildlife habitats and degrading scores of pristine, protected waterways that provide drinking water for more than a million people.

The Letter

Dear Gov. Murphy,

Thank you for your continued commitment to defending our state-preserved lands and upholding the law against the proposed PennEast pipeline. You have taken strong and appropriate steps to protect taxpayer-preserved lands from seizure by a private pipeline developer.

If constructed, PennEast would do permanent damage to our state. The proposed route would cut through thousands of acres of preserved open space, devastate critical wildlife habitat, and degrade scores of pristine, protected waterways that provide drinking water for more than a million people.

Although the U.S. Supreme Court has sided with PennEast, the project must still receive approvals from the Delaware River Basin Commission and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. These agencies will have the final say over whether this project moves forward.

I respectfully urge you to continue to hold PennEast accountable to the law and environmental regulations that this unneeded, damaging project simply cannot meet. Let’s end the threat of this dangerous and unnecessary pipeline once and for all.
